The pedagogical focus of the Department is based on the current social need to implement the principles of sustainability into practice. Our goal is to develop education in the areas of sustainability, circular economy, product ecology, raw material security and other fields that are important for sustainability professionals.
We are convinced that the shift of an industrial-based society towards greater sustainability can be achieved by graduates of technical fields with appropriate environmental and socio-economic knowledge.
The study programmes at the Department of Sustainability and Product Ecology are intended for students who are interested in technological protection of the environment and the management of industrial sectors in a way to decrease the burden on the environment and land. We see sustainability as a balance between human needs and the environment, industry and the land, consumer requirements and resource availability. Today, the competencies of sustainability managers also include creativity, ecodesign, presentation skills and enthusiasm to work for a good cause.
Among the professional and creative activities of the Department staff, we can name analytical work in the field of product and corporate sustainability. We conduct research focused on product ecology and ecodesign. We use analytical tools such as life cycle assessment (LCA) or material flow analysis (MFA) to determine the environmental impacts of products, services, technologies, and organizations.
