Impacts, perspectives and limitations of plastic recycling in the Czech Republic: Efficient plastic recycling is an essential element in the broader context of sustainable waste management. A wide range of recycling technologies and a rapidly changing legislative framework, however, create a complex and opaque environment. Using material flow analysis (MFA) and life cycle assessment (LCA) methods, the environmental impacts of various recycling approaches are systematically mapped and evaluated, which makes it possible to identify the most efficient approaches to plastic waste management. The aim of these analyses is to identify optimal approaches to plastic waste recycling that not only minimise environmental impacts but also promote sustainability and circularity within legislative requirements. The results of these analyses provide valuable information for developing efficient strategies in the field of plastic waste management and may also contribute to evaluating the effectiveness of already-implemented policies.
