Lectures at Pakistani Scientific Institutions
In January 2026, Vladimír Kočí had the opportunity to lecture in Pakistan on the topic of "Sustainability Trends and the Role of Carbon Footprinting in the Industrial Supply Chain" at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad and the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) in Karachi.
Discussions focused on the differences between corporate carbon footprinting (Scope 1–3 according to the GHG Protocol), product carbon footprinting, and full-scale Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). We demonstrated why aggregated GHG reporting is insufficient for product-level decision-making, why there is a risk of shifting environmental burdens between impact categories, and what role EPDs, ecodesign, and managing Scope 3 emissions play within the supply chain.
A particularly powerful experience was seeing the printed volumes of Chemical Abstracts—a tangible reminder of the era when scientific information was flipped through by hand—as well as visiting Kohinoor Textile Mills, where we discussed current sustainability issues in cotton textile production. Frankly speaking, in certain aspects of environmental data management, energy efficiency, and meeting export requirements, they are quite far ahead compared to the average in the Czech Republic.
It was an intensive and open debate on how to bridge the gap between the methodological precision of LCA and real-world industrial decision-making.
Sustainability is becoming a global technical discipline—and the international exchange of expertise is essential.
